If there is a single item that truly 'pulls' an interior scheme together it is the curtains. A well dressed window brings colour, warmth and life to a room.
In addition to the obvious benefits of privacy and insulation, curtains can be used to define an interiors character. When closed, curtains are a dominant upholstery feature. When open they transition the interior to the exterior.
C&J founder Louise Pullin has been making curtains for over 25 years.
From the early days of sub-contracting our curtain making we have evolved a team of specialists that now makes curtain production a fundamental part of our business.
In this example there is a fireplace close to the window surround. Here we have used a single curtain that pulls with a cord to one side only. This makes door access easier, avoids the curtain being 'pulled' outside if windy and, in particular, keeps the curtain fabric away from a potentially hot fire.
Choose your fabrics from our extensive range of hangers and samples in our dedicated showroom fabric area.
We supply all makes of fabrics including the Romo group labels, Spanish technical fabrics like Crevin and Portuguese manufactures like Elastron.
If you are unable to visit the shop we can work at a distance. Liaising by email we will make a visit to your property for assessment and measuring and produce a no obligation quotation.
We also make fabric repairs, re-line existing curtains, and upholster any type of interior or exterior furnishings.
As a compliment to curtains, or as an alternative window dressing solution we also make Roman blinds and supply and fit roller blinds.
We make all of our own cushions, bed-spreads and exterior upholstery in house. Our highly talented girls are passionate about creating the highest quality furnishings for your Algarve home.
There are many ways to 'dress' your windows. Many houses and apartments are equipped with shutters for security. These may be in the form of folding doors or mechanised roll down. A good solution in such circumstances is a simple voile. Useful during the day for sun filtering or privacy, and decorative at night.
A rather dated multi-dressing solution is with the use of twin poles or tracks. Typically a back-out curtain on the back pole/track and a lighter weight voile on the front pole/track.
A more contemporary solution to the double pole is to combine a curtain with a roller blind. The roller blind can be with shade fabric or black out fabric. The curtain can be anything from a simple voile to a fully lined curtain.
Our highly talented team created the most exacting of solutions using double dressings.
In the example depicted we have used a roller shade blind that creates privacy and reduces sunlight during the day. At night a beautifully made waved lined curtain on a classy black track is pulled across on a cord.
The mechanism and roller of the blind is carefully fitted concealed behind the black track to create a simple and stunning visual.
Whilst most of the curtains we make use a waved heading tape we do still make curtains with a French pleat.
This more traditional look still has its place in farmhouses and older renovated properties with Algarvean character.
We still use a track in preference to the very dated rings or eyelets.
In the example opposite the track is embedded into a pole and gives a traditional look, yet glides beautifully.
The type of support chosen is partly dictated by the curtain heading. Traditional wooden curtain poles have been largely superseded by metal poles which in turn have now been replaced by tracks.
Purely a matter of personal choice. Typically curtains are hung from between ½ to 1 cm off the floor. Voiles and light weight curtains are sometimes allowed to lay lightly on the floor. Rarely but dramatically we make curtains that lay fully 5 - 10 cm on the floor.
